7 Months & A Girlfriend

Boomer just reached another month in age! 7 months and he’s been pimping lately. Boomer’s got girlfriends all over the place. Over the weekend, we went to the dog beach in Ocean Beach with other puppy friends and had a blast. There was Aaron (a pretty shelby female puppy) and Meeka (a gorgeous toy husky). It was the first time I saw this lil bugger swim and I was soo proud (I thought he hated water). Maybe he only hates taking baths.

Though Boomer is straight pimpin’ with his handsome demeanor and energy, full of stamina, he’s met his match: Meeka- a chihuahua/jack russell mix. Meeka is our neighbor. A bit smaller in size compared to Boomer, but a feisty gal who can only dish it out with Boomer, but take him to the tracks.

We’ll be posting photos of this couple soon. I love seeing them play together.

PS- After a long day of playa-playin’, Boomer sleeps like this with his arms crossed. Pimpin’ ain’t easy…it’s exhausting.

PSS- Boomer has been having his poo ‘accidents’ inside my bf’s place (in the kitchen, near the door to backyard). Maybe he’s retaliating from sleeping in a separate room from ours or he can’t hold in his stuff until the AM (which is usually around 6 or 7am). Whatever the reason…pooping in the house ain’t cool!

Lifting

Today was the first day that Boomer was successful at the ‘lift left leg to pee on tree’ move! Oh, I’m soo proud! No more of that squatting like a lil girl. But you know what? I can’t keep my hopes up. I’ll need to be patient with this transition into manhood.

PS- Obviously that is NOT boomer in the photo above. You know I like posting photos, but couldn’t post one of him doing this because I didn’t have the camera with me. Plus, he wouldn’t want me to post photos showing his junk—all over the interwebs!

Pissed!

After a long streak of doing his business in the right places, Boomer spontaneous pulled that to a halt by pissing on my bed. I caught him 1 second later, as he was walking off my bed. I was right there! On the bed with him! Bad Boomer! I sent him to his room (his crate).

Into the washer machine, the sheets go!

I should have known the signs when he was staggering into the bathroom (where his training pads used to be). He’s been crate training and I take him out a few times a day to his grass patch outside the house.

Grrr. This is the second time Boomer has pissed on my bedsheets.

I need to get him a bell AND live on the 1st floor (preferably with a grass yard in front).

10 pounds

Mr. Boomer walked to Banfield Vet Hospital with his head held proud. Today marked his weight of 10 pounds on the dot!

He walked out with his head not so high. Actually, he was a bit sluggish. It was the last of his shots this year (Parvo booster today) and he took it like a man without the anti-allergic shot (Dihymphienmeine – I know this is not the correct spelling..I tried).

Boomer is a lil whiney, probably from the shot. But he’s doing well..taking a nap in his crate.

He’s been doing a really great job of doing his business (pee pee and potty) outside, which he deserves a star sticker.

The above photo of Boomer from 1972. He hasn’t aged a bit! Just kidding, he’s on my mom’s retro kitchen floor.

Inconspicuous

There’s a lot of things that Boomer really likes but shouldn’t. Such as:

- Buttons

- Shoelaces

- Zippers

- Weeds and plants outside our house

- Random crumbs on the kitchen floor

- Hair (yes, he likes to bite and nibble on the precious hair you have on top of your head)

Humping

With every boy puppy or boy dog, the urge to hump is upon us. Boomer, now at 10 lbs, loves to hump his stuffed dog, Rosco. I don’t think he’s gay. Wouldn’t mind if he was.

I’m noticing he’s having his hump-a-thons a few times a day now. Luckily, Boomer rarely humps anything other than Rosco. Thank god because it would freak me out if he would constantly hump one of my arms (which he’s done once). Humping your mom’s arm…incest, no?

Though, it would be funny if he had a thing for humping someone’s face while they were laying down. Sneak attack!

Look at this face! Oh, to be a puppy. Eat, exercise, play and hump. How grand.

Boomer The Vampire

We went to visit my mentor, Matt, today and during the course of playing, Boomer ended up biting Matt on the wrist. There was breaking of skin and he bled. Made me feel really bad. I’m not sure what happened and Matt assured me that Boomer was just being a pup. But it makes me think about if he’s disciplined enough. And if I should discipline him more or if there are ways I can be more effective.

Rain Rain = Much Sleep

Boomer got his shots yesterday (Bortella, Covona, Lyme combo) and getting his 2nd dose of Parvo vaccine this Sunday. It makes me happy that we’re taking care of his health.

This guy is getting stronger by the day. Feisty as always. and most adorable when he’s curled up in a ball, sleeping on my belly. Lil bugger.

For the past few days, Boomer has been walking on a leash in our neighborhood. It’s short walks really…10 minutes. They say the walk should be the number of months times 5 min. So Boomer is 2 x 5 = 10 min. During the first walk, he was struggling to follow me, accept the collar and be ok with cars whizzing by. Now, he’s gotten a lot better and isn’t easily distracted as much. Not to say, he doesn’t get distracted at all, because he does. Sometimes, he’ll just sit there and just look at me for the next instruction.

So it’s been pouring rain in the last 2 days, so we haven’t gone out for our walks. Surprisingly, he’s pretty mellow and naps a lot since he can’t go outside. Matter of fact, he’s sleeping between my left arm and tummy right now…where it’s all nice and cozy.

In terms of behavior, I noticed that he doesn’t come to me when I call his name. He’s been a bit growly and when he plays rough, sometimes, he let’s out these little puppy barks. This is when I check him and give him the hand signal and ‘say No barking’.

One of my biggest fears is for him to feel as the dominant one and become uncontrollable. He’s no where near that, but I do see hints of him trying to show dominance.

From reading different books, I get torn between showing him that I’m the pack leader with tough love vs. giving him more affection so he can trust me.

Puppy training is in a few days, so I’m pretty glad about that.
